• It is the largest lizard living on Earth today.

• Komodo dragons are carnivores.

• They have forked tongue like snakes and uses its tongue to detect a prey by smell. They can locate the prey that is 4 miles away.

• Though they reproduce by sexual method, the female Komodo dragons can reproduce using parthenogenesis. They dig burrow as deep as 9 metres and lays 15-30 eggs. Eggs look like balloons filled with water. Baby lizards use "egg tooth" to crack the shell.

• Young Komodo dragons spend time in trees. Also the young members roll in fecal material to get scent that the large members are programmed to avoid.

• They hunt during day as they can’t see well in night. They have difficulty in hearing.

• Komodo dragon can run 12 to 13 miles per hour.

• They are great swimmers.

• They are cold blooded and try to get heat from sun. During rainy season, they will hide in their burrows to prevent heat loss.

• They have short legs, long tail and 60 teeth in their mouth. They use their tails for protection and prey.
