'Gunjan Saxena'~ Who is she?

Gunjan Saxena was born in 1975 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. India. Her father and brother both served in the army. Her patriotism lead her to join India Air Force.

About  Kargil war -

• This war was India and Pakistan armed conflict. 
• It took place on May and July 1999. 
• The war was happened in the Kargil district of Kashmir, India and elsewhere along Line of control. 

Let’s hear some outstanding facts about her.

• In 1994, the first batch of female trainees joined the Indian Air Force. Gunjan Saxena with 24 others belonged to the group.

• Gunjan and Srividya Rajan flyed a Cheetah in the combat jone.

• At the age of 25 years, she was stationed for Kargil War being the only woman stationed.

• In the war she evacuated over 900 injured troops including the dead.

• She was assigned surveillance role. She had to deal with 13000 to 18000 feet’s height, enemy fires and makeshift grounds.

• She helped in transporting supplies to troops.

• She flew hundreds of sorties during the war.

• She is the first woman to receive Shaurya Chakra award.

• She retired from her duty as Flight Lieutenant at 2004

Netflix, Zee Studios and Dharma Production made a movie based on her life which is titled “ Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl “ starring Jahnvi Kapoor.
