Greek antiquities from 500 to 30 B.C.
Level One
Collection includes:
Ancient Egyptian antiquities from 4000 to 30 B.C
Spanish paintings from the 15th to 19th centuries
British and American paintings from the 16th to 19th centuries
Italian paintings from the 13th to 19th centuries
Greek antiquities from 700 to 400 B.C.
Decorative art from the 6th to 19th century
Level Two : European paintings from 14th to 19th centuries.
The museum is divided into 8 departments. These are Near Eastern Antiquities, Egyptian antiquities, Greek, Etruscan and Roman antiquities Islamic art, sculptures, Decorative Arts, Paintings and Prints and Drawings.
A 5km architectural line of monuments runs through central Paris to the West, which is known as Axe historique. The Louvre is the nucleus and is located in the middle of Arc de Triomphe, the Grand Arche of La Defense and the obelisk of the Place de la Concorde.
The Mona Lisa is one of the most famous pieces of art in the museum. It is protected by bulletproof glass and has its own bodyguards. Still it was once stolen.
During Napoleon's rule, the Mona Lisa was hung in his private bedroom.
Napoleon Bonaparte temporarily renamed the museum after himself.
The Louvre was used as a storeroom during World War II.
There is more than one Louvre. Abu Dhabi has the second one.
